| Dandiya and Garbha dances by youth from School of India for Languages and Culture |
Teenagers from School of India for Languages and Culture are performing a medley of Dandiya and Garbha dances to the song “Dholi Taro Dhol”. These dances come from the western Indian state of Gujarat and are being performed to a rhythmic piece set to pulsating beats. |
| Bhangra by School of India for Languages and Culture |
Bhangra is a very popular and high-energy dance that is performed to the addictive and heart pounding beats of the dhol (large Indian drum). It comes from the north Indian state of Punjab . The performance here is based on the song AKH LADIYE set to relatively modern beats and steps. This song is set to a Bollywood tune and style. In their exhilaration, the dancers have lost all sleep and simply want to dance the night away. |
| Priya, Sonali, and Sonya: Dance to Halla Re |
Priya, Sonali, and Sonya are three sisters that have been dancing since age 2 each. We receive vigorous training at Katha Dance Theater where we learn Kathak dancing, a form of classical Indian dance. We also enjoy freestyle Indian dancing as well as choreography. We have significant experience choreographing and performing dances at annual community events. Priya and Sonali recently performed at the Ordway on April 21st in an event that showcased international dance. Tonight, we will perform in a dance that we choreographed to the song Halla Re, a song about celebration and fun. |
